Le blues de Walter Trout: étape 9: Otis Rush!

Dans la neuvième étape de son hommage aux bluesmen moins connus, Walter Trout nous parle aujourd’hui d’un très grand guitariste, qui malheureusement nous a quitté le 29 septembre dernier Otis Rush. Voici ce qu’écrit le nouveau leader du blues actuel au sujet du compositeur de « It takes time ».

Walter Talks About Otis Rush and the Song: 

"Born in Philadelphia, Mississippi and moved to Chicago, IL in 1949 and made a name for himself playing the blues clubs on the South and the Westside. He started his recording career in 1956 with his classic song, "I Can’t Quit You Baby". He is often credited with being one of the architects of the West Side Guitar Style.
I first met Otis, when I was in John Mayall’s band, and we did a tour of Europe together and appeared at many great venues and the Montreux Jazz Festival. He was a very kind and quiet person until he got on stage and roared like a lion. Being on that tour is one of my fondest memories. Rush was truly one of the greatest blues songwriters – having written many classics. But this song is not as well-known as lots of his other work. 

I was drawn to the groove at first and then fell in love with the way Rush improvises with the traditional blues lyrical form. His lyrics here tell a story of a relationship gone wrong."
